MORTON defender Ricki Lamie believes a win over Livingston today would be a big confidence-booster in the race for the play-offs.

Livi are the only team that Morton have not been able to beat in the league this season, drawing once and losing twice to the Lions.

David Hopkin’s side have won just once in their last five outings, but are still sitting comfortably in second place in the table.

And Lamie says now would be a great time to end the rut against Livingston, particularly as the league season begins to draw to a close.

He told the Tele: “It would be great to get that psychological boost over them, particularly at this stage of the season going into the last few games.

“There’s a wee bit of negativity surrounding their style of play, but everyone forgets they’ve got good players, they’ve got a lethal front two which is why they are where they are.
“We’re not going to take it for granted that we’re going to head there and try and turn them over.

Morton were cruelly denied a win over Livingston in the last encounter between the two sides when Gary Oliver looked to have scored the winner on 88 minutes last month.

But 10-man Livi struck back deep into injury time, Jackson Longridge earning the hosts a point with a late equaliser.

But the centre-back, who has featured 31 times for Morton this season, admitted they’ve had their fair share of late goals too to earn themselves points this year.

He said: “There are definitely times this season where we’ve been fortunate to come away with a point or even all three.

“But at the same time there’s always a sucker punch waiting around the corner, and it usually evens itself out for the rest of the season.

"We’ve not had the rub of the green against Livingston, but they’re a good team, it’ll be another tough game.”

Morton slipped to fifth in the table during the week, with both Dundee United and Dunfermline picking up valuable wins, pushing the Ton outside of the play-off positions.

But Jim Duffy’s team are only two points behind them, and with a midweek game for the Cappielow side on Tuesday against Dumbarton, there’s a lot still to play for.

Lamie added: “It’s going to go right to the wire, all the teams are playing each other and the pendulum can swing any way.

“Falkirk are making a late dash, there are five or six teams who can nick those last few spaces.

"It’s all down to ourselves, we’re in a decent position now, we’ve got a midweek game next week, and it could go any way.”
