MORTON midfielder Gary Harkins says it’s all about grinding out the results at this stage of the season.

The Ton had to do it the hard way on Tuesday in their 3-2 win over Dumbarton, coming from behind to take the lead before being pegged back to 2-2 after 88 minutes.

They eventually got the winner through left-back Jack Iredale four minutes into added time to keep a chance of securing a play-off place with only three games to go.

The former Blackburn Rovers player hopes the Greenock side can make it easier for themselves today against Queen of the South than they did on Tuesday.

He said: “It was an important three points against Dumbarton. We made it hard for ourselves but the result is all that matters at this stage of the season, and it’s the same for today.

“It’s at that point of the season where we’ve given ourselves something to play for, and we need to do everything we can to get the win.”

It’s a stark contrast from the position Harkins’ former side were in last season.

The 33-year-old was part of a scrap at the bottom end of the table last year with Ayr United, who were eventually relegated.

And he’s glad to be fighting at the right end of the Championship this time around.

He added: “It’s a lot better than last year. I’m enjoying it.

“I was part-time with Ayr United last year. I’ve been full-time most of my career and I’m just much happier being here.”
