GARY Harkins has left Morton to join Championship rivals Queen of the South.

The fans player of the year confirmed he was leaving the club this morning, with the Dumfries club making their announcement shortly afterwards.

Harkins made a big impact in his short time at Cappielow, making 41 appearances for the side last season, and was the club’s top goalscorer with eight goals.

The player also took to Twitter to thank the Ton fans for his time at the club.

He said: "Unfortunately my time is up. Thanks to all the staff, players and fans at Morton this season.

"Really proud to have won the fans' player of the year award and hopefully change a few perspectives along the way.

"Massive respect to the gaffer (Jim Duffy), one of the best I've had, to Hagi (Craig McPherson) too, a great coach and friendly ear when needed.

"I wish the club all the best for the future."
