MORTON defender Mark Russell is mulling his contract offer from the club.

Because he is under-23, the Ton offered the youngster a new deal for next season, despite not having a new manager in place.

And the left-back, who can also play in various positions across the park, is one of the Ton’s longest serving players, and has made over 100 appearances since making his debut back in November 2013.

The 22-year-old made 36 appearances for the Cappielow last season, but with Jack Iredale breaking through into the first 11, his appearances became limited at left-back towards the end of the season.

But the defender has filled in at left midfield, right-back and centre mid in the run-in for the Ton.

With the change in manager after Jim Duffy left the Greenock side after four years in charge, Russell is waiting to talk to the new boss before he decides where his future lies.

He told the Tele: “I need to wait and see what happens with the new manager and see what his plans are.

“I met with Warren [Hawke, Morton’s chief executive] the other week, and he discussed that I’m under-23 and that the deal was still there.

“But he’s given me a bit of time. Obviously I want to wait and see who the new manager is before making a call.”
