NEW Morton manager Ray McKinnon is confident he can tackle the club’s much-needed recruitment drive having faed similar tasks at his previous clubs.

The Ton have just four players signed up for next season, with all other players out of contract and captain Thomas O’Ware, below, and fans’ player of the season Gary Harkins already away.

But McKinnon says he has experience of rebuilding squads at Raith Rovers and Dundee United.

During his time with United, McKinnon overhauled the squad early on, bringing in the likes of Thomas Mikkelsen and Tony Andreu on loan from Odense BK and Norwich City respectively, with the pair scoring 29 goals for the club between them.

And while the 47-year-old says a Morton rebuild is not the ideal scenario, he is confident he will bring in the right players for the Ton.

He told the Tele: “We’ve got a short period of time to build a team, but that’s what I’ve done at the last two clubs I’ve been with at Raith Rovers and Dundee United.

“At United when I took the job all the players were under contract. We had to move players on to bring in players like the Tony Andreus of this world in, and I think we did magnificently.

“We had a big rebuild the next year, we lost Simon Murray, Andreu and Thomas Mikkelsen.

“There was 60-odd goals between them. We looked to replace them and I felt I did alright on that side of it, we brought in the likes of Scott McDonald and we were sitting near the top of the table, so I have no point to prove [to Dundee United] and I’m totally focused on this job.”
