Ruaridh Langan is hoping to impress new Morton manager Ray McKinnon after signing a one-year extension.

The 19-year-old, who captained the development squad last season, first joined the club back in 2012.

The centre midfielder from Port Glasgow is hoping to feature more in the first team this campaign, after making five substitute appearances last season.

He told the Tele: “I’m delighted to stay on, especially with a new manager. It’s a fresh start for players coming in and I’ll hopefully get a chance of playing some more football.”

Langan, a former St Stephen’s pupil, will be training with the first team on a full-time basis.

With the likes of Chris Millar and Jim McAlister joining the club this summer, as well as Michael Tidser already at Morton, the 19-year-old is hoping to learn from their experiences, especially after the improvements he’s made over the last 18 months.

He added: “Since Christmas a year-and-a-half ago, one of the coaches told me what I needed to do to kick on.

“He showed heatmaps for me and showed me what I needed to do better, and the advice he gave me was really good, and helped me progress a lot in the last year-and-a-half.

“I’ve started adding goals to my game for the under-20s, and now it’s just a case of building on that and looking to get into the first team.

“That’s what you want at this age, you want to learn from players with that experience, and learn from the experiences and hopefully push on as well.”
