MORTON’S Charlie Telfer is relishing a return to Tannadice in September after the league fixtures were announced on Friday.

The former Dundee United midfielder and his manager Ray McKinnon will make their first return to the club this season since their departures — and the 22-year-old admits it was the first fixture he looked out for.

Telfer told the Tele: “United was probably the one I was wanting to know the most, I had three good years up there.

“It’ll be nice but it’ll be mixed feelings when I go up there. I had a nice time at United but hopefully we go up there and we get a good result.”

Morton kick off their season at home to Queen of the South on August 4 before travelling to League One play-off winners Alloa Athletic the following week.

The Cappielow side’s first trip up to the Highlands this year will be in October, where they face Inverness Caley Thistle and Ross County on October 6 and 27 respectively, before playing Queen of the South away in a midweek tie three days later on October 30.

Telfer joked: “I did see both midweek games were against Queen of the South, and it’s always nice when you get the three away games in the one month!

“All the away games are going to be really tough and there’s a lot of travelling in this league.”

Morton face a tough run-in this year, with trips to Falkirk and Dunfermline before hosting Dundee United on the final day.

The midfielder said: “Hopefully we’ll be in a position to be going for something, and you’re going to have to beat the best to get to where you want to be.

“It will be nice to see where we are at that stage of the season and hopefully we can get a positive outcome.”
