DENNY Johnstone says he is looking forward to playing ‘free-flowing attacking football’ this season with Morton.

The striker joined the Ton earlier this week, returning to the club following his first spell in 2015-16 when he was on a season-long loan from Birmingham City.

While Ray McKinnon was Raith Rovers manager, he was able to see how Ton — managed by Jim Duffy — got the best out of the forward when he scored 17 times for the Greenock side.

After discussions with McKinnon, the 23-year-old says he was sold on a return to Cappielow when he learned how the side were going to play this season.

He told the Tele: “That’s one of the things the manager said to me before I signed.

“He was the manager of Raith Rovers at the time I was at Morton last time, and he saw why we were having chances and creating a bit of success for myself.

“He obviously wants to replicate that, and the rest of the boys are all on the same level as well.

“I promised myself after my last move I would only go to a club where the manager knows what I’m all about.

“The fans have seen me and know what I’m all about, and I feel like I’ve got another level to kick on from when I was here before. The main thing this season for me is to be back scoring as many as I can.

“I think the way we’re going to be playing this season we will create a lot of chances.

“If we’re hopefully going to be playing free-flowing attacking football I think the goals will come.”
