MORTON loanee Kerr Waddell is hoping to make a big impact at his new club.

The 20-year-old’s six-month temporary switch was confirmed earlier this week, and he came on in the Ton’s win against Motherwell in a closed-doors friendly in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Waddell made 22 appearances for the Dens Park outfit last season in his breakthrough campaign.

But while he started off the season well, featuring regularly in the starting 11, his game time became limited after Dark Blues boss Neil McCann signed former Liverpool defender and England international Steven Caulker.

After a chat with the Dens manager and talking to his Dundee team-mate Craig Wighton, who played under Ton boss Ray McKinnon at both Brechin City and Raith Rovers, the youngster knew a loan deal at Morton was the right move for him.

Waddell told the Tele: “I enjoyed my first season playing first team football for Dundee, it was frustrating though as I thought I’d done quite well.

“But when the manager brings in players like Steven Caulker I’m not going to be playing every week.

“It was good to learn from him but it was frustrating not playing anymore.”

“I was hoping to stay and play at Dundee, but as soon as the gaffer phoned me and told me about the opportunity at Morton I just wanted to come and play every week.

“I spoke to Craig Wighton who had worked under Ray and he said he was a great manager.

“Neil McCann says he thinks the loan move will be good for me, and I just need more experience.

“He’s got quite a lot of defenders at Dundee and hopefully I can go back in January and I can show that I can play in his team.”
