CHRIS Millar says coming back home to Morton has been the perfect move.

The 35-year-old made the switch to Greenock in the summer, after 10 years with Premiership side St Johnstone.

Millar was honoured with a testimonial game in Perth on Sunday for his long service for the club against Aberdeen, in a game which finished 2-2 against Derek McInnes’ side, the former Morton player who originally brought him to McDiarmid Park in 2008.

It was a fitting end to Millar’s time at the club after the midfielder played over 300 games for Saints, winning the old First Division and claiming a first Scottish Cup in 2014.

The midfielder commuted each day to Perth while still living in Greenock, and he says cutting out the long journeys is having a positive impact in pre-season training.

He told the Tele: “It’s been really good in terms of my energy and my body, it’s been brilliant.

“After making the long journeys up for a number of years, it’s made a real difference in my energy levels not doing the drive up and down each day.

“I couldn’t ask for any better start, pre-season has gone really well and I really like working with Darren Taylor and the manager.

“There’s a good buzz about the place at the moment and I feel as if that’s come from the management since they’ve come in. He’s hit the ground running and even the players he’s signed and speaking to people on the streets around the town.

“But we need to take that into the start of the Betfred Cup though when it counts.”
