A NEW look Morton were put to the sword by one-time Ton loanee Lawrence Shankland, whose second-half hat-trick helped Ayr United to a 3-1 victory at Somerset Park in their Betfred Cup tie on Saturday.
Ray McKinnon’s tenure as Cappielow boss got off to a bright start when Michael Tidser’s clever free-kick outsmarted the Ayr defence.
But former Ton forward Shankland, who scored four times in 18 appearances in his six-month spell during the second half of the 2016-17 season, finished well and also capitalised on poor defending to score his second career treble.
