MORTON striker Ben Armour says he is 'on cloud nine' after scoring his first professional goal - but told the Tele how one of his biggest supporters missed his moment of glory.

Armour says netting his first ever senior strike was a bittersweet moment as his biggest fan - his dad - wasn't there to see it.

He explained: "He has watched almost every one of my games since I was a wee boy, and Saturday was one of the first matches he has ever missed.

"He sent me a message on my phone saying he was devastated to miss me scoring, but said he was delighted for me at the same time."

The 20-year-old netted the Ton's fourth in what was a comfortable Saturday afternoon in their Betfred Cup tie against Albion Rovers, winning 5-0 in the end.

Armour chased down Scott Forrester and managed to win the ball before going through on goal and sliding it underneath the goalkeeper to cap a great day for the Ton - and a landmark one for the young striker.

He told the Tele: “I’m delighted and still totally buzzing, That’s the kind of thing I want to be doing.

“It’s my job at the end of the day to put the ball into the back of the net, so to get the chance and take it hopefully stads me in good stead.

"I know I’ve got a long way to go, but I'll keep working to improve my game.

“To score my first competitive goal felt outstanding, and to score it in front of the home crowd at Cappielow, I couldn’t have chosen a better place to do it.

"It’s the first of many hopefully.”

After missing a big chance against Stenhousemuir last week, the former Annan loanee says he was relieved he take his opportunity this time around.

He added: “I was just trying to make an impact. It’s hard from the bench sometimes but I was just trying to do my best and I got my chance - I’m just delighted I took it.

“I was reliving my missed chance against Stenny all last week. I played it over and over in my head to see where I went wrong and to make sure the next time I got a chance like that I would take it.

“You can try too hard from the bench and that happened to me a bit last week against Stenhousemuir."

Armour added: "I’m gutted my dad wasn’t here, but it happens - and if he was here I probably would have put it wide!”

The striker now hopes to kick on after grabbing his goal and hopes to nail down a starting spot in Ray McKinnon’s team.

Armour said: “That’s what I’m working towards. Hopefully if I keep working away and keep impressing the manager I will manage to do that, but I’ve got a wee bit to go yet.

"Hopefully I’ll get to that level soon and be pushing for a regular start."
