MORTON right-back Reghan Tumilty is hoping to replicate some of his former flatmate’s success after seeing his old friend Andy Robertson play in a Champions League final.

The 21-year-old used to share accommodation with the Liverpool defender, inset, when he was at Dundee United.

Tumilty also stayed with Hearts’ John Souttar, Stoke City’s Harry Souttar and Sporting Lisbon’s Ryan Gauld, who played for the Tangerines youth side.

They have all moved up since their days at Tannadice, with Robertson becoming a regular in the English Premiership.

Tumilty hopes with regular game time this season at Cappielow he can one day replicate a bit of their success, and wants to play down in England eventually.

He told the Tele: “That would be the plan for every young Scottish player, to play in the English Premier League.

“You see players like Andy Robertson, I used to play with him and live in the same house with him when I was at Dundee United.

“Seeing him play in the Champions League is a bit crazy, but playing well and getting games and building up your CV will stand you in good stead.

“It happens once in a blue moon, but fair play to him, he’s been absolutely brilliant.

“I was with the under-20s at the time and he came up after his spell at Queen’s Park to Dundee.

“We also had Ryan Gauld. John Souttar and Harry Souttar in that house as well, that was a mad, mad house.”

But Tumilty’s next stop in his footballing journey takes him to the Indodrill Stadium to play Alloa Athletic today.

It’s one of the shorter journeys for the defender, who lives nearby in Stirling.

The Wasps were just edged out by Tumilty’s former side Ross County 1-0 in Dingwall last weekend, and they also impressed during the League Cup group stage, despite not qualifying.

The right-back hopes his Ton team-mates can draw on the positive points from their opening day draw against Queen of the South last Saturday.

He added: “It’s close to home for me, so not too much travelling for once.

“We have to take the positives from the last game and take them into the next one.”

After his loan spell with Falkirk last season, Tumilty was desperate to go out and feature week-in, week-out for a team.

The defender felt it was the vital next step he needed to take if his career was going to progress and it’s so far so good for him at Morton, playing every minute of each match since he joined the club last month.

He said: “My aim is to get regular game time and be playing as much as I can.

“It’s what I’ve been starved of in the past, so getting regular time at a high level here is something I’ve looked forward to.

"Teams like Morton would not have considered me if I didn’t have that first team experience. It was vital for me to get it.”
