A BIG boxing show in Greenock has had to be called off at the last-minute.

Friday’s ‘The Future’ bill in the Town Hall — which was to feature local stars Sam Ball and brothers James and Grant Quigley — will not go ahead, it’s been announced.

Promoters had already suffered a bodyblow when one of the other men on the bill, Aston Brown, was forced to pull out due to injury.

Now James Quigley has suffered the same fate, meaning the event has been put on ice.
It’s hoped it will take place in the New Year.

Promoter Colin Bellshaw said: “Unfortunately the Greenock show has been postponed until early next year. James Quigley has had to pull out with ligament damage .

“That, along with Aston Brown already calling off with injury, leaves the show too short of fighters and it’s too late to replace them.

“I’m very disappointed as it was a great atmosphere the last time we were in Greenock but that’s sport.”

He added: “We hope to have Sam and Grant boxing in January at the famous St Andrew’s Sporting Club Burns Night and we wish James and Aston speedy recoveries.

"We now look forward to returning to Greenock in 2016 where we will hope to have a title at stake for one of the home fighters.”
