A YOUNG Gourock Golf Club member teamed up with Rafa Cabrera-Bello to secure a Pro-Am competition at Dundonald before the Spanish superstar’s Scottish Open victory on Sunday.
Thirteen-year-old John Jack Jnr, together with two other promising teenage golfing talents from Scotland, were chosen by Scottish Golf to play for the Scottish Government’s Visit Scotland team in the Scottish Open Pro-Am played over the Dundonald links.
John was delighted to be teamed up with Cabrera-Bello, who is currently ranked number 31 in the world.
Rafa displayed a wonderful interest in the boys and provided them with great coaching advice as he guided them around the very challenging Ayrshire links course.
Young John and his team-mates were more than up for the challenge as they scored birdie after birdie, roaring home over the last two holes to overtake the Martin Kaymer, Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy teams to take the lead and come out on top by two strokes, leaving McIlroy and Poulter and their respective teams of leading Scottish celebrities in second and third place respectively.
Rafa went on to crown a magnificent week for himself by winning the Scottish Open at the first extra play-off hole on Sunday.
