ANDY McCall retained Greenock Glenpark Harriers Docherty Cup to virtually seal this year"s club championship title.

After making an early break at the start and quickly opening up a 200 metres gap in the 10 mile race from the Gourock Pool, he looked to be heading for a comfortable win.

He survived a scare at the halfway way turn at Inverkip when he discovered Stevie McLoone had closed his lead down to just 50 metres.

Unfortunately for McLoone this just spurred on the youngster on the return leg, leaving the veteran with the consolation of the runners-up spot.

Robert Wilson showed a marked improvement from his last outing at Clydebank, holding off the challenge of Steven Campbell for third place.

Those with marathons on the horizon are all starting to show some promising form, especially Robert Dolan jnr, Alan O"Rourke and Kenny Pryde who all set new bests for the course.

After a two year lay-off, George Mitchell made a welcome return with an impressive comeback to finish sixth.

In the women"s race, the club"s most improved athlete Fiona Cushnaghan demolished almost five minutes from her time from 12 months ago to record her first win in this year"s championship.
