ANDY McCall made it five wins in a row in Greenock Glenpark Harriers" Cornalees hill race.

But he didn"t have it all his own way, as early leader Dougal Ross of Bellahouston pushed the pace from the start, closely followed by Stevie McLoone, leaving McCall toiling back in third.

McLoone then took the lead just after halfway on the climb and looked to be heading for an unexpected win, but McCall wasn"t going to give up his trophy without a fight.

By the time the leaders had the summit cairn in sight, McCall had pulled level. McCall grew with confidence and increased his lead on the descent to comfortably to retain the title.

Westerlands" Ellie Homewood broke the ladies" record for her second win, with Glenpark"s Terry Wall delighted to take two minutes off her previous best time.

Peter Clare, showing a big improvement from last year, was next Glenparker to finish, in seventh, closely followed by Mick Harrington who has been setting best times in every race this year.

Glenpark took the honours in the team competition ahead of Westerlands, with Bellahouston in third.

In the junior 800m race, David Reay was the top boy, smashing the old course record by 34 seconds.

Matthew Deegan"s speed and strength gave him the advantage until 600m but it was David"s endurance that saw him move clear in the final stages for his record-breaking run. A much improved Adam McCormick finished third.

Shannon Kangley, without a win in this year"s girls" championship, led for 650m of the race before being passed by Meighan McDade, but the youngster fought back for a well deserved first victory, with Rebecca McDiarmid a surprise third.

Top in their age group were Calum Abercrombie and Lauren Mulaghton.
