INVERCLYDE Athletic Club has been announced as one of 95 volunteering groups from across the UK winning this year"s Queen"s Award for Voluntary Service.
This award recognises the outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups voluntarily devoting their time for the benefit of others.
The prestigious National Honour, equivalent to the MBE, sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering.
Inverclyde Athletic Club has received the award for its work within Scottish Athletics, upholding an outstanding record of achievement in athletics in the region.
Winners of this year"s Award were selected from 406 groups nominated by members of the public who have been helped personally or witnessed the benefits of a group"s work in their community.
The club will receive a certificate signed by the Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal, presented by Her Majesty"s representative, the Lord Lieutenant for the Renfrewshire area.
And group representatives have also received an invitation to a Royal Garden Party event at the Palace of Holyrood House in the summer. Club secretary Robert Shaw said: 'We are over the moon at receiving this prestigious honour.
'This award is for all the many dedicated people at the club whether they be committee members, coaches, athletes, timekeepers, recorders or parent.
'Week-in-week-out, they come rain or shine and selflessly give up their free time for the benefit of others.
'We would especially also like to thank Provost Michael McCormick for nominating Inverclyde Athletic Club for this prestigious award.'
