SCOTLAND’S World Cup woes continued this morning as they lost by one wicket to Afghanistan despite posting a record score – helped in part by Greenock ace Richie Berrington.

He hit 25 runs from 46 balls to help the Scots finish their innings on 210, surpassing their previous World Cup record of 186.

Richie, pictured, also took four wickets for just 40 runs in quick time.

But it wasn’t enough to earn the national side’s first World Cup win as they lost by the narrowest of margins — 211 for 9 — in Dunedin shortly after 6am this morning.

Next up for the Scots are Bangladesh in Nelson, New Zealand, next on Thursday at 10pm.
