CRAIG Wright will make an emotional return to Glenpark tomorrow when Greenock entertain Watsonians in a vital SNCL fixture.
However, there will be no room for sentiment when the action gets under way and Wright will be fully focused on ensuring his old team-mates remain without a win in what has been a predictably difficult start to the season.
Wright agonised for much of the winter on whether to remain at Greenock for a sixth season or move closer to his work and home bases in the capital.
He eventually took the latter option and has proved himself a useful acquisition for the Myreside club who many have tipped to be dark horses this term.
Sonians have also captured Scotland fringe man Stewart Chalmers from Grange and leading National Academy pace bowler Paddy Sadler.
New Zealander Tim Weston has also joined as professional and all four have played their part in giving the Edinburgh side an encouraging start to the campaign.
They showed how dangerous they can be by demolishing Clydesdale last week, a performance in which Chalmers claimed three wickets before Weston hit an unbeaten century and Wright 47 in a five-wicket success.
Wright, who has already hit 189 runs for his new club at an average of 47 as well as turning in some typically tidy bowling spells, declared: "Leaving Greenock was one of the hardest decisions I have made in my life.
"Everyone knows I had a very strong attachment to the club and I have happy memories of my time at Glenpark.
"But the decision has been made now and, although it will be nice to return and see old friends, my only aim on the park will be to help my team win."
Meanwhile, Greenocks hopes of breaking their SNCL duck will not be helped by the absence for the third week running of Richie Berrington.
The international all-rounder has been hogging the headlines with three half-centuries for the Saltires during that period but his presence has been sorely missed at Glenpark.
Overseas amateur Courtney Kruger is also still unavailable with a broken finger while coach Tony Judd is attending a conference in Australia.
On the plus side, Kevin McLaren's men claimed a morale-boosting win in last Sunday's West League Cup encounter against Ayr.
However, it remains a measure of how the balance of power in the domestic game has changed that Greenock will enter this game, and most other league fixtures this season, as underdogs.
