GREENOCK Cricket Club look set to further strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Tele revealed on Monday that Aussie ace Tom Batters will be rejoining the club in April for a second campaign at Glenpark, pictured.

Officials say that they are currently in the process of securing a second overseas star for 2014-15 — and hope to reach an agreement very soon. A spokesperson said: “Negotiations on a second overseas player for the 2014 season are at an advanced stage and it is hoped that an announcement on this can be made shortly.” Bosses at the club have also told of their delight at the return of key player Batters, who last year took 54 wickets and contributed 263 runs, mostly scored when he was promoted up the batting order.

They said: “Tom is looking to improve on these performances this season as he spearheads the 1st XI’s campaign to return to the top league of the WDCU.

“The popular Victorian proved to be a hit with members and spectators alike and made a real impact during the 2013 season.”
