GREENOCK cricketer Alex Baum finished the second top-scoring batsman for Scotland against the might of Pakistan in their under-19 World Cup clash.

The Glenpark ace scored 26 runs from 22 balls.

But his efforts couldn’t help his side as Scotland were defeated by 146 runs by the two-time tournament winners.

It means the side finished in third place in Group A with two points and will now compete in the Plate Championship.

Coach Craig Wright said: “We started extremely well with the ball but couldn’t maintain the early pressure as our bowling and fielding discipline was not as it has been in the previous games.

“This allowed Pakistan to capitalise in the last 10 overs with wickets in hand.

“We batted well in periods against another spin dominated attack, but we couldn’t maintain an appropriate tempo or develop partnerships for long enough to get into a position to have a crack at such a large total.” Scotland will now play the United Arab Emirates on Sunday in the Plate quarter-final at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
