MORTON wing-back Jim McAlister knows that a St Johnstone win against Partick this afternoon would more or less wrap up the championship for them, but he has not given up all hope of a Ton title triumph.
He said: 'We"re not expected to win the league, but if we focus on our own job you never know what might happen.
'Maybe Partrick can nick a result against St Johnstone, so we have to concentrate on our job against Dundee.'
McAlister"s role on the left for Morton usually means he has come up against Eric Paton, one of Dundee"s best performers.
Paton was praised by Ton boss Davie Irons in yesterday"s Telegraph and McAlister said: 'He"s probably their best player. His use of the ball is particularly good, but I think they"ve been using him in midfield recently so I probably won"t be up against him.'
As for his own role, McAlister said he was enjoying himself since the side returned to a back three. 'I prefer the wing-back role rather than wide left in a midfield four. It means you have the whole left side to yourself.'
Towards the end of last season, McAlister had a fine game against today"s opponents, scoring a goal into the bargain, although Morton went on to lose 2-1. He said: 'It"s one area of my game I need to improve. I"ve not scored enough.'
A goal this afternoon would help the cause and, if Morton can win the match, they will then have to see what happens at McDiarmid Park where St Johnstone take on Partick.
'If they [St Johnstone] win they can only throw it [the title] away,' concluded McAlister.
But in this league a Jags win would not surprise anyone.
