YOUNG Inverclyde footballers were on the ball at a tournament in Ayrshire.

The St Andrews Boys" Club under-8s travelled to New Cumnock to compete in the annual football tournament hosted by Glenafton Juniors.

The group competed against teams from as far as Dumfries, Coatbridge and Paisley.

After displaying some excellent football, the boys were crowned champions.

Coach Hugh Taylor said: 'We are extremely proud and absolutely delighted for the boys. Each and every one played very well on what was this team"s first tournament.

'It has been a very eventful and rewarding season with more than half of the squad catching the eye of scouts and being invited to attend development training with professional clubs Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and St Mirren.

'Saturday was quite simply the perfect finale to a fabulous season.'
