DRAWING A BLANK: Port were held last week by Glasgow Perthshire.

PORT Glasgow have a second successive home fixture tomorrow, when they host the visit of Cambuslang Rangers to Ravenscraig.

The Port won't need to be reminded of the horror show when the teams last met on the opening day of the season back in August.

Then, a thumping 6-2 defeat got the Port's league campaign off to the worst possible start.

But that was the beginning of a rebuilding exercise for manager Craig Brown, and with his squad now firmly established, tomorrow's match should be a much more closely-contested affair.

It certainly won't be lacking in importance.

The Wee Rangers still harbour hopes of gaining one of the two promotion places from the Central League First Division.

But with only nine games of their season left, even a draw on Saturday would probably put paid to those prospects.

And the points are equally vital for Port Glasgow. With three clubs taking the drop into the dreaded Second Division, the local team know every point gained takes them a step further from the relegation zone.

They will be boosted by the news striker Scott Nugent is back in contention for a place, after his lengthy lay-off through suspension.

Nugent's expected return last week was thwarted by work commitments, but he is available for tomorrow, with the only absentee being Frank McKay, whose unavailability is also work-related.

Meanwhile, recent signings Thomas Molloy and Kevin McCann, who both impressed after coming on from the bench for the last half-hour against Perthshire last week, may have staked their claims for starting berths tomorrow.

Midfielder McCann, who had been on trial at the club, put pen to paper earlier this week to officially sign up.

Port boss Brown said: ''It should be a good game tomorrow. Like ourselves, Cambuslang like to get the ball down and play open football.

"We have come a long way since that day back in August, with the squad really gelling well, and I am confident we can get a good result tomorrow.''

l Kick-off at Ravenscraig is at 2pm. Port Glasgow Juniors are sponsored by 5 Star Plasterers, and WJ.
