Ryan: Time we cut out the errors

Print | Email

CALL: Ryan McGuffie.

RYAN McGUFFIE is anxious for his Morton team-mates to cut out the individual mistakes and get the results the majority of their performances warrant.

McGuffie, left, has watched as careless errors have threatened his side's place in the first division, despite producing competent displays.

Now he has had enough and is desperate to build on his side's midweek win against Airdrie when they face Partick Thistle tomorrow.

McGuffie said: "I think we are playing reasonable football at times. But we concede too many goals and they are cheap goals.

"We are having to really work hard for goals but when teams score against us they don't really have to cut us open. They seem to come from an unforced error and they get their goals rather cheaply."

But McGuffie is confident his side can continue to turn things around, and admitted boss James Grady has reiterated to his squad they are fully capable of avoiding relegation.

He said: "The manager just highlights that we are working hard. He says we are not always getting the results we deserve.

"But that will come with more hard work and obviously getting more goals and winning games. I think in the past couple of weeks, if we'd scored first then we wouldn't lose the games.

"Sometimes we are not getting the rewards we deserve for our hard work but other times, like against Dunfermline, we didn't deserve anything."

McGuffie has enjoyed success in his career before, after having been part of the famous Gretna side which played in a Scottish Cup final and Europe.

And he longs for his current side to replicate the winning habit which became a key part of that now-defunct team, with Wednesday night's result acting as a good starting point.

He said: "Once you start winning games, you get into a habit. I think that's something we have not really had. You just have to start winning games.

"You tend to go into games thinking 'we can't lose this game today' and this is something which we need to get into the squad."
