KILLER INSTINCT: Allan McManus wants to see his team taking their chances.

ALLAN McMANUS is backing his Morton players to build on Tuesday's vital win over Ayr United, but has warned the squad they must be more ruthless if they are to get anything against Queen of the South tomorrow.

The Dumfries side will make the trip to Cappielow on the back of two positive results themselves and McManus is fully aware of the task which faces his side.

And although he is confident his charges have what it takes to grab the three points, the Morton assistant manager will be looking for less profligacy in front of goal.

McManus said: "To come off the park having only scored one was probably the only negative against Ayr. We created numerous clear-cut chances and we really need to be more ruthless.

"There's no doubt we're creating a hell of a lot of chances at the moment and we need to be taking more of them.

"But at the end of the day it was more important we got the three points, and on top of that the boys played exceptionally well, so there are real positives.

"But that's past now and we need to get ready for the weekend."

Queens have traditionally enjoyed successful jaunts to Cappielow in the past, winning 2-1 on their previous trip despite falling behind.

But McManus stressed such statistics will have no effect on the players as they endeavour to open a gap over relegation rivals Ayr.

He said: "At the end of the day, records are always there to be broken anyway, but it's not something which we look at.

"It'll be down to who's the best team on the day, nothing to do with records.

"We've done OK at home recently, so we'll be looking to continue to do that.

"We're under no illusions how hard a game this is going to be, but it's a game which we go into full of confidence and we'll be looking to get the three points.

"There's never a game we worry about who we are playing against. If the right Morton team turns up, we're a match for anybody."
