COACH: McNally.

MARK McNally is revelling in his new role as assistant manager at Morton - but revealed he has no inclination to make the step up to be a manager in the future.

During a lengthy career spanning clubs such as Celtic and Stoke City, where he moved from Southend United for £120,000, the former defender garnered substantial experience at the top level.

And although McNally is keen to pass on his expertise at Morton, he is adamant his personal ambition does not extend any further than being a coach.

He said: "I think I'm more of a coach and maybe that's why Allan's brought me in because I think we work well together. A coach and a manager, to me, are different. There are some people that can do both but I think it's good to get a balance with a coach and a manager.

"The manager obviously makes the final decision but he needs a coach in there that he trusts. We worked well at Stirling and fingers crossed it's the same at Morton."

The pair enjoyed a successful spell at the Forthbank stadium, spending three years in the dugout together.

It is a relationship which works well and McNally believes he is the perfect foil for Moore's brand of management and is enthusiastic about their chances of success at Cappielow.

He said: "We're different but I think that's what is good as well. Sometimes we don't sing off the same hymn sheet but we bounce ideas off each other and can have a chat and discuss things.

"We like to get in among the players and like to think we're approachable. We'll try to pull everybody together and try to work in the same direction all the way through the club."

McNally eventually left Moore, above, at Stirling to take up a coaching position with the SFA but he is now relishing the opportunity to work with the Morton manager once more.

He said: "He's quite infectious. He says things the way he sees them which is great for myself, the players and the people he works with."
