MORTON have been forced to reschedule their Alba Challenge Cup first-round tie with Dumbarton - because the game was set to clash with a wedding.

The fixture was originally supposed to take place on Saturday 24 July, but will now be played a day later, after it transpired a couple were due to tie the knot at Dumbarton's Strathclyde Homes Stadium that day.

In a bizarre coincidence, Ton suffered an identical problem when drawn to face the same opponents, in same round of the same cup, on the same weekend last year. That fixture was also subject to a 24-hour delay.

Ton chairman Douglas Rae is said to have agreed to the switch in principle following a discussion with manager Allan Moore, and the Scottish Football League has since backed the decision.

It is believed officials at the second division club are blaming a change to the league calendar - which now begins in July rather than August - for the conflict in dates, as the wedding had been booked in 2008.

However, they insist they have taken action to prevent similar problems in the future and are confident the attendance for the game will not be adversely affected.
