PETER Weatherson has stepped up his comeback from injury and is confident of playing a part in the club's pre-season trip to the north of England.
The Ton striker has been suffering from a pelvic injury - which involves an inflammation of the pubic bone - with his recovery further complicated by a strain to his abductor muscle.
Weatherson, pictured, was instructed to rest and is finally feeling the benefits of a summer of inactivity.
He said: "In the past five days I've done a lot of straight-line work and I'll try kicking a ball this week.
"That's what my body feels ready for so I don't think I'm too far away.
"I'm maybe a week behind the other boys in terms of fitness but the straight-line work I've been doing will stand me in good stead.
"It's one of these injuries that, if you rest it, one day it will just knit back together.
"It must have done that and I'm just going through the process of getting the stiffness away now."
Ton travel to the north of England next week to face Blyth Spartans on Tuesday and Gateshead on Thursday, then return to Cappielow to play Bristol Rovers a week on Saturday. Weatherson is confident he will be able to play a part in those games.
He said: "If I don't suffer any setbacks and the management are happy then I might not be ready to start games but I'll hopefully be ready to come on.
"You can do as much running as you want but match fitness is different.
"We'll see the reaction when I start kicking a ball and take it from there."
Weatherson has responded well to Allan Moore's new regime, which involves double training sessions and a significant upgrade of the training facilities.
He said: "The boys have taken to the double sessions well. The fitter you are the better chance you have of running over the top of teams.
"It's good to see the club deciding to move forward because I think we hit a spell where we stood still. It shows they have a bit of ambition.
"Even small things like getting your lunch after training and the kit getting washed are good.
"It means all you need to worry about is turning up and training well."
