SHOWING THE WAY: Greacen.

STEWART Greacen claims the upgrade of the club's training facilities has helped foster a stronger team spirit.

New Ton boss Allan Moore has brought in televisions and sofas and the players are also given their lunch to break up the double training sessions and encourage them to spend more time in each other's company.

Greacen said: "It's a lot more professional than in the seven years I've been here.

"It makes a difference when you come into a place like this. It has maybe been a wee bit run-down in the past couple of years.

"We've felt for a few years that the small things make a difference - things like getting your kit washed and getting your lunch.

"All the sports scientists will tell you that the best time to eat is straight after exercise. It makes it part of your day and means you are not in such a hurry to get away.

"We're going to England next week and, especially with new boys coming in, it will give us more of a chance to get to know them properly."

Greacen has also benefited from the increased emphasis on fitness and believes the extra sessions plus the appliance of sports science - including the body fat of each player being measured - will stand them in good stead for the new campaign.

He added: "Jim McInally was the first to bring it in and the testing we did last week was similar to what we have done in previous years. It's the way football is going and can only benefit us."

Moore has stated he would be content with a mid-table finish next season and Greacen is quietly confident Ton can show considerable progress from last season.

He said: "When you look through the division you see clubs cutting their squads down to 16 or 17 and it is certainly a leveller.

"Dundee spent a bit of money last year and it didn't work for them so teams can't keep doing it. The manager has already said a mid-table finish would be a big improvement. Falkirk are coming down but it's always hard for the relegated team.

"Inverness went straight back up but it took them three or four months to adjust. It should make for an open league."
