MORTON have signed Hamilton defender Grant Evans on loan until January as Allan Moore begins to finalise squad numbers ahead of the new season.
The 20-year-old, who played 11 times in the SPL last year, extended his contract with the New Douglas Park club to the end of the season yesterday, but will join up at Cappielow shortly for his loan spell.
The young defender, who had a spell on loan at Dumbarton in 2008, gives Moore more options in defence, where Ton are very low on personnel.
Moore told the Tele last night: "Grant will give us cover in the right back area and can also play central defence.
"He played a bit in the SPL last year and I have watched him in various reserve games in the past. He is big, strong and gets up and down the pitch.
"Billy Reid did us a good deal to get him and it's important we have got him in as we are low in numbers.
"Stewart Greacen didn't play against Gateshead on Thursday night with a shin problem and we had to put Allan Jenkins to centre-half after the interval, which was not ideal."
Moore also ran the rule over former West Brom defender Jeff Forsyth in the victory over Gateshead.
He added: "He played at right back and did well. He's had a difficult time through injury and lost a year through a broken arm and then having Crohn's disease. We are keeping tabs on him and will maybe get him up for a couple of games."
Meanwhile, trialist Tony McParland has been told he won't be getting a contract.
Moore added: "We are looking to bring someone in who is a bit more dynamic.
"Tony didn't do anything wrong in the games he has played but we are looking more at a winger-type who is going to get forward. "
Portuguese trialist Hardy Pinto-Moreira, who showed up well in Ton's victory over a Nigerian select last week, has returned to London.
Moore said: "He's not a player we would disregard and we may get him up to Scotland again to have another look at him, but he does not have the fitness levels required to play in the First Division at the moment."
