PETER WEATHERSON claims he is finally approaching full fitness and says he is itching to get back on the goals trail for Allan Moore's new-look side.

Ton's star striker, main image, right, endured an anxious summer after struggling to shake off an osteitis pubis pelvic injury. However, a period of rest finally allowed the injury to settle down and Weatherson is almost back to his best. Weatherson said: "I wouldn't say I am fully fit yet, but I am 90 per cent there.

"Deep down, I know that I've got a little bit more to go.

"It's all about getting match practice now and I'm hoping that will come in the next two or three weeks.

"I have been involved in most of the recent games and that is a good sign because the manager obviously thinks I am ready.

"It was a hard time over the summer. I went on holiday fearing the worst and came back feeling the same.

"Thankfully, there has been a lot of progress since then and I am itching to get back to full speed.

"Strikers always set themselves targets but my priority is just to get back to full fitness and hopefully the goals will come.

"There has been a big change in personnel, but I think the team

has moulded together pretty well so far."

Weatherson struck 12 times for Ton last season and he hopes the emphasis by boss Moore, inset, on attacking football, in particular his use of flying wingers, will see him presented with even more chances in front of goal.

He said: "If you have wide men getting crosses in the box all the strikers have to do is get on the end of them.

"We have been working on those type of moves over the past few days, where the wingers get crosses in and we attack them.

"Crossing and finishing is a big part of our afternoon sessions and it is something we want to improve on."
