FLYING WINGER: David O'Brien.

DAVID O'BRIEN expects to be singled out for abuse by Stirling supporters when he faces his former side today, but the winger just wants to get Morton's league campaign off to a flying start.

The 26-year-old, pictured, followed Ton boss Allan Moore to Cappielow after the pair had clinched the second division championship with Stirling Albion last year.

And while O'Brien is relishing the chance to see his former team-mates again, he insists there will be no love lost between them should he be thrown into the action.

O'Brien said: "I've had promotions and we won the league last year but when you move on to another club the fans usually forget all that and you become a villain.

"I don't know what the reaction will be like but there will probably be a wee boo and a few shouts here and there, but it's always good to hear that as well.

"I could so easily have still been a Stirling player coming here on the other side of it, but I'm at Morton now and we'll hopefully get a good result.

"There will obviously be a bit of banter when the players arrive at the stadium but it will just be business as usual once we get out there. When you're out on the park you just forget about it."

Ton head into today's game on the back of two cup wins but O'Brien has warned they may have to be patient to get a result.

He said: "We'll need to keep our patience and try and break them down as I'm sure they will maybe just try and play for a draw and contain us."

O'Brien made the decision to return to full-time football with Morton, having endured an unhappy spell at Dundee before going part-time with Ayr United and Stirling.

The winger has no regrets about his decision and is relishing every day at his new club.

He said: "It's been brilliant. You can't beat getting up every day and playing football, working on your fitness and getting the banter with the lads.

"When you go part-time you accept it but the feeling of going and training every day is great."

Meanwhile, Morton have been drawn away to St Johnstone in the second round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup. The tie will be played on either 24 or 25 August.
