ON TOP: Greenock netted three in last week's derby clash with Port Glasgow.
GREENOCK make the short trip across the Clyde tonight to face Vale of Leven in a crucial Sectional League Cup tie.
With full points from their opening two matches putting them in pole position in Section 7, the Ravenscraig men are in with a shout of topping the table and qualifying for a quarter-final slot.
The Vale, who comfortably won the same section last season, would once again appear to be the main threat.
They looked a strong side as they opened their campaign with a 3-1 win at Renfrew, so Greenock manager Stevie Mooney will know that even taking a point from Millburn Park in Alexandria tonight would be a good achievement.
Meanwhile, Port Glasgow will be looking to cut out the defensive errors which have seen them concede seven goals in their opening two fixtures.
They face Johnstone Burgh this evening, with the Burgh at Ravenscraig for the second time in four days following their 3-2 defeat to Greenock on Saturday.
Despite that, however, a win tonight would put them back into contention in the group, with two home ties to follow.
So as well as trying to shore things up at the back, Port Glasgow will have to start capitalising on the scoring chances they have managed to create but failed to take in their first two games.
Both of this evening’s matches kick-off at 6.45pm.
Port Glasgow Juniors are sponsored by 5 Star Plasterers, and WJ. Greenock Juniors are sponsored by Regents Vehicle Sales, Greenock, Kingsley Wood Solicitors and Notaries, and the Lighthouse Bar.
