CALL: Kevin Cuthbert.

KEVIN CUTHBERT insists Morton must learn to shut up shop if they are to gather points away from home this season.

Allan Moore’s side took the lead through Kevin Kelbie in Tuesday’s second-round Alba Challenge Cup tie away to Ross County, but ended up losing 3-1.

And the Ton goalkeeper, above, insists they must learn to kill games when they get an advantage away from home.

He said: “The manager wants us to play it differently away from home.

“If we go ahead, we need to do what we can to preserve the lead, not expose ourselves, and give others a chance to get back in the game.

“Basically, we need to do what Stirling Albion did to us on Saturday - to try to frustrate the opposition players and fans as much as possible.

“With the greatest respect to the league, if a team goes out to play for a 0-0 then there’s a good chance they will get it.

“It is sometimes hard to break teams down in this league and we need to become more like that. Against Ross County, I think it would have been important to go in 1-0 up at half time.

“Then we could have sat down with the manager and decided how to play the second half.

“As it was, they equalised and it was them who had the impetus going into the interval.

“It was a disappointing goal to lose and we didn’t do as well in the second half.

“I think we will become a better side from the experience and the next time we go up there we will play it differently.”

Cuthbert played his first game last night since the Renfrewshire Cup final defeat to St Mirren a couple of weeks ago.

And he knows he faces a challenge to establish himself as No 1 again, with Colin Stewart, inset, having carried on his good form of last season.

He said: “I need to hope the games don’t dry up for me. The manager says he has been happy with me in training and games so I need to keep working hard.

“It’s going to be hard but I’m professional enough not to spit the dummy.”
