ALLAN Jenkins hopes Morton are meeting Dunfermline at the right time after the East End Park side’s Alba Cup exit to Queen of the South on Tuesday night.

Jim McIntyre’s side went out of the competition after extra time and penalties and must now raise themselves for the visit of Allan Moore’s side.

The Fife club are one of the favourites to win the First Division this season and started with a 1-0 victory over Falkirk last weekend, but Jenkins hopes they are vulnerable.

He said: “They had a tough game on Tuesday night and hopefully we are getting them at the right time.

“We lost against Ross County in the cup, too, but there were plenty of positives we can take from that game into this one. Dunfermline have their own style of play. They like to get the ball down and pass it, and they like to play with wingers.

“We’ve had good games against them in the past and you usually get the chance to express yourself. Hopefully it will be the same again. They make it a big park and it will be a different game to last week against Stirling Albion [when Ton drew 0-0 in the first league game of the season]. It was obvious they wanted a point from the first whistle.”

Jenkins came on for the last 14 minutes of last weekend’s draw with Stirling and played the full 90 minutes of the midweek loss to Ross County.

In the latter game, he was moved from his usual central midfield slot to the right, but he insists he is happy to be adaptable if it means holding down a regular place.

He added: “We started the game with four central midfielders and it was a much narrower formation than we have played so far this season.

“Fred [Fouad Bachirou] was at the bottom of the diamond, Graeme Holmes was at the top and myself and Michael Tidser were right and left.

“In an ideal world I prefer to play central, but if it means playing regularly then I’ll take it.

“We have to adapt. It gives the team another dimension if guys can play in different positions. Hopefully I will have given the manager a wee bit of a decision to make for today.”
