FIT AGAIN: Brian Graham

BRIAN Graham says this season is the biggest of his fledgling career - now he wants to establish himself as a main man in Morton’s team.

The forward, 22, had missed the latter part of pre-season and Ton’s opening matches as he recovered from persistent shin splints and a thigh strain.

But after resuming training this week, Graham has set his sights on firing his way into manager Allan Moore’s first-team plans, starting against Partick Thistle at Cappielow on Saturday.

Graham, pictured, told the Tele: “I’m only signed on a one-year deal so it’s a big year for me in football.

“I want to be in that team week in, week out, scoring goals and getting Morton up this league.

“But I wouldn’t say it’s a pressure. I’m only 22 and playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and I’ve got the chance to do it so I don’t feel a pressure.

“I’ve not really had the chance to show the manager what I can do, just wee bits and bobs in training, but hopefully as the season progresses I can be doing enough to be playing regularly.”

Graham admits he is now desperate to earn a place in Saturday’s squad, but it is a challenge he is happy to face after missing the start of the league campaign.

He said: “It’s been horrible. You go to games and there’s nothing you can do but watch and it’s hard. I wanted to be playing but I got this stupid injury and there was nothing I could do about it.”

His return to fitness is a boost to Morton, whose failure to hit the back of the net led to an unmerited loss at the weekend.

But Graham refused to blame his fellow strikers and instead lamented the service that was provided.

He added: “We had chances but there was nothing really clear cut.

“We had a lot of the ball but sometimes the end product from the wingers was maybe not so good.

“It doesn’t matter what team you’re in, if you don’t get the service you’re not going to score goals.”
