GOAL: Kean got opener.

MORTON goal hero Stewart Kean was delighted to take the pressure off his team by netting their first league goal and sending them on their way to victory.

But the striker still believes he has work to do if he wants to cement his place in the starting line-up.

He said: “It’s great to get off the mark in the league. It’s an important win for the team and for me as a striker as we hadn’t scored in the league yet.

“Hopefully, I can keep my place in the side after getting that goal, but obviously that’s the gaffer’s decision.

“As well as Peter Weatherson, we’ve also got Kevin Kelbie andBrian Graham fighting for places. They’re good players, so there’s competition and that’s healthy.

“If I’m not doing well those boys can come in and take my place, so I’ve got to make sure I’m sharp and keep scoring to stay in the team.”

“But you can only score goals if the team continues to work well and create chances so the strikers can score.

“I think the delivery was much improved this week. Carlo Monti was brilliant down the left, but I thought everyone did well today.”

A delighted Morton boss Allan Moore said: “It’s good to get the victory and it takes the pressure off a wee bit because we’ve got the monkey off our back.

“First half we played our football, second half we dug in and if you can do that in this league then you’ll win more points than you lose.

“You also need a wee bit of luck, which we haven’t been getting. But we’ve got that with the second goal. I don’t know if it was in, that’s the linesman’s call, but 1-0 would’ve been enough as we defended superbly.

“I still think we need a bit of sharpness up front and we need to improve our link-up play, but we’ll take 2-0 every week no matter how we play.”

Partick manager Ian McCall said: “We didn’t play well. I was really disappointed to perform like that after the heights we hit last week.”
