ATTACK: Allan Moore.

MORTON boss Allan Moore is relishing the chance to see his side pit themselves against SPL opposition tonight.

Moore was thrilled to see his side defeat Partick Thistle at the weekend, and is hoping for further success against St Johnstone.

And the manager insisted he has no intentions of sitting back - saying he will order his players to attack from the first minute.

Moore told the Tele ahead of the match: “It’s a game where we can pit our wits against a premier league team.

“We’ve got to try and express ourselves, there’s no point in going up and sitting behind the ball.

“I think we’ve got to go up there and try to play expansive and attacking football the way we can play. If we go up there and just sit in, then the good players will break us down so we may as well have a go.

“If we do then we might get a bit of luck which you always need in the cup and that might get us into the next round.”

And Moore admitted his side’s win over Partick has given the players a crucial confidence boost ahead of the tie.

He said: “I think it was important as we were playing good football without getting the results.

“It is a results-driven business and obviously if we’d gone through Saturday without a result, that would have put more pressure on the St Johnstone game.

“That result gives us a bit of confidence and the fact it’s an SPL team should give the boys a lift.”

However, the match has been made even harder with Ton struggling with a number of injuries.

Long-term injury victim David MacGregor is still out, as are David O’Brien and Kevin McKinlay, with both Marc Smyth and Carlo Monti facing a race against time to prove their fitness.

Moore added: “We’ve got a few injuries so we might have to make changes to suit the personnel.”
