MORTON'S Nathan Shephard couldn’t have had a tougher start to his professional career than he did last night.
The 18-year-old was making his first start for the club and faced a baptism of fire.
However, the Paisley-born left-back acquitted himself well and admitted he was pleased with his performance.
He said: “I thought I’d be nervous, but when I came on Saturday against Partick Thistle I felt fine, so I took confidence from that. The adrenaline also helps you through as well.
“I’m just delighted to get a chance and be out on the park. The manager said to me if I’m given a chance to make sure I take it and I’m going to try my best to do that.”
“I thought I dealt well with Cleveland Taylor in the first half, and I’d played against Collin Samuel in the reserves a few years back.”
"I did alright against them, but I was a bit disappointed the guy got past me for the second goal.”
And Morton boss Allan Moore had special praise for his the young defender.
He said: “I thought our young left-back, Nathan, did exceptionally well.
“Nathan and Ryan Kane were the pick of last year’s under-19s and I thought enough of them to offer them contracts.
“Some people might point to Nathan’s height as a concern, but he didn’t look out of place at left-back tonight at all.
“It was a good experience for him and playing against an SPL team will give him confidence.”
