WAKE-UP CALL: Marc Smyth.

MORTON defender Marc Smyth says his side need to start hitting the back of the net - before they find themselves in trouble.

Ton drew a blank for the third time in four league games away to Raith Rovers on Saturday - allowing the Fife side to steal a 1-0 win.

And the ex-Airdrie man has warned his team-mates they could find themselves occupying a relegation place if they don’t rediscover their goalscoring touch soon.

He said: “If we don’t start scoring we’re going to be at the bottom of the league. We defended well in the first half but we’ve not kept the ball and weren’t at the races.

“We got in at 0-0 and started to play a bitbetter in the second half - but we never scored, again.

“It’s frustrating for everyone as we all need to chip in with goals.

“We’re not scoring from set-pieces, and we’re not scoring from open play, so we all have to share the blame.

“It’s disappointing because we’ve only conceded three goals, which is probably one of the best defensive records in the league, yet we’ve only got four points.

“At the end of the day, if you keep defending well, you’ll get away with a 0-0 but they’re not going to be good enough.”

Furious Morton boss Allan Moore couldn’t contain his anger at the result.

He said: “We got what we deserved out of the game. The first half wasn’t acceptable whatsoever.

“Raith are a hard-working team and we didn’t match that and we were lucky to go in at half-time at 0-0.

“We said to them to go out in the second half and put a better performance on - and they did.

“I thought we controlled the first 20 to 30 minutes, but it’s the same as before, we don’t look as if we’re going to score.

“We’re trying to get it into some of the boys in our team’s heads that they’ll start thinking my way or they’re not going to be here.

“I might be getting a wee bit harsh here but when we get beat I’m an angry wee man, and I’m an angry wee man just now.”

Delighted Raith Rovers gaffer John McGlynn said: “Morton made us work hard for the win.

“You have to earn the right to win football matches, and I thought we did that.”
