READY EDDIE GO? Moore is lining up move for Malone.

MORTON boss Allan Moore is weighing up a move for Eddie Malone but admits any deal will depend on additional funds becoming available.

The former Dundee left-back featured for Ton as a trialist against Raith Rovers and is free to sign after the transfer window slams shut at midnight tonight, as he is currently unattached.

And while Malone, 25, will continue to train with the Cappielow side, Moore, left, warned he has not yet shown enough to warrant a contract.

Moore told the Tele: “I don’t think he did enough to impress me on Saturday, I’d need to see him in another game but he’s a free agent so we can sign him after the window closes.

“We’ve got him in and we’ll try and decide on him in the next day or so, but that depends on finances and his performance on Saturday.

“At this moment there is nothing agreed with him.

“Myself, Mark McNally and Eddie will discuss it over the next day or so to see if it is viable for him to come to the club, and if we want him to come, but it will depend on finances.”

With Kevin McKinlay currently sidelined by injury, Malone is seen as experienced cover in the left-back position.

Teenager Nathan Shephard has deputised admirably in recent outings - but Moore has insisted his interest in signing Malone should not be construed as a slight against the Ton youngster.

He said: “Eddie phoned me and said he was available and we gave him a go as we were away from home at a difficult place and felt a bit of experience would help us.

“I don’t want to take anything away from young Nathan or knock his confidence though, it was just an option we had available and we had a wee look at him.”

The Ton gaffer is also on the lookout for a right winger, but reiterated a member of his current squad must be offloaded before any additions can be made.

He said: “That’s not going to happen unless we get someone to move out.

“We’ve got some irons in the fire and if that happens then we’ll try to get someone in.”
