HOPES: Allan Moore.

ALLAN Moore thinks the international break has come at the right time for Morton - as it gives his injury-hit squad time to heal.

The league season has been halted as the Euro 2012 qualifiers begin, and with Ton already out of the Alba Challenge Cup they have a weekend off.

And the Ton boss is hopeful he will have the luxury of a fully-fit squad when his side return to action against Cowdenbeath a week today.

He told the Tele: “We’ve got a wee break now, so the boys will recharge. We’ll give them a couple of days off and hopefully we’ll bounce back against Cowdenbeath.

“We’re hoping to get wee Fred [Fouad Bachirou] back in contention as the break will give him a chance to get his injury sorted out, and we’re hoping to get Kevin McKinlay back.

“So we’re aiming to have a full squad by the time we return against Cowdenbeath and with that we’ll hopefully start picking up the points.”

Moore is especially eager to see strikers Kevin Kelbie and Brian Graham use the free weekend to boost their fitness, as a lack of goals continues to be a problem for the side.

The duo were handed a run out during a bounce game with Greenock Juniors earlier this week and the manager hopes their return will provide competition in attack.

He said: “Kevin Kelbie and big Brian are obviously the ones we have to focus on as we’re not getting goals from the rest of the strikers.

“At the end of the day you are judged on the goals you score and at this moment Peter Weatherson and Stewart Kean aren’t scoring.

“Big Brian and Kevin will be chapping on my door wondering why they aren’t given a chance.”

But Moore admits to being content with the players at his disposal, adding: “We’re putting in good performances but not getting results, and we need to start getting results. But we’ve more than matched teams round about us.”
