TIDS A KNOCKOUT: Michael wants more goals.

MICHAEL Tidser has challenged himself to add goals to his game this season and has been sweating it out in training to improve his strike-rate.

The midfielder has been a revelation since his arrival at Cappielow last season, with Ton boss Allan Moore having previously described him as the best player in the league.

But Tidser, 20, has analysed his performances and feels he must add to his solitary strike for the club - and is looking to offer a more effective presence in the penalty area.

Tidser, left, told the Tele: “There is an onus on midfielders to provide the service but from my point of view I would like to score more goals.

“I’ve been working on getting myself into the box more and making good runs and hopefully I can get a few goals.

“We need to start hitting the back of the net. Not just the strikers, all of us have to chip in with goals.”

This weekend could provide Tidser with the ideal opportunity to add to his tally, with first division newcomers Cowdenbeath visiting Cappielow.

But the former Celtic youngster has refuted suggestions the Fife club are merely cannon-fodder - and will afford them the same respect he would give any other league rival.

He said: “To be honest I don’t look at stuff like a team’s status. Come Saturday we’ll be trying to play and get the goals.

“That won’t change regardless of whether it’s Ross County or Cowdenbeath - we’ll always show the same respect to all teams.”

Tidser may be reunited with Fouad Bachirou in the centre of the park on Saturday, with the French midfielder nearing a return to fitness.

And Tidser is enthusiastic about playing alongside the talented ex-PSG youth, and hopes he will be the first of many to return from injury.

He added: “Fred’s a good player and he’s intelligent. I like playing with him and we link up well.

“The likes of Kevin McKinlay and David MacGregor have been out but a few boys are coming back. The bigger the squad, the better it is.”
