ON THE BALL: Peter Weatherson in action against ex-Ton number 2 Allan McManus at Dumbarton this season.
PETER Weatherson has revealed he is still struggling with his pelvic injury - but refused to blame it for failing to hit the goals trail.
The Ton striker toiled for a spell last season with an osteitis pubis injury, a condition caused by an inflammation of the pubis bone which, in his case, was further complicated by a muscle strain.
A period of rest over the summer brought some relief but Weatherson has continued to feel some discomfort and claims he will be forced to miss the odd training session this season to best manage the problem.
He told the Tele: “The type of injury it is, the specialist said it was never going to fully go away. At some points, I feel it more than others.
“There are some days when I will maybe have to finish after half a session. I spoke to the manager this morning and he understands the injury.
“He knows that missing one day of training is better than missing a month of games. I am just trying to manage it as much as I can. I am as fit as I have been for a long time but I am not as match-sharp as I could be.”
Weatherson has had a subdued start to the season and has yet to score in the league, despite a double in the 7-1 defeat of Stranraer at the end of July.
He said: “Strikers are judged on goals and I have not scored or played well. All strikers go through barren spells.
“The injury is not an excuse for my form this season. I just need to keep working hard.
“Everyone is pulling in the same direction. We’ve not had the worst of starts, particularly when you consider the past few seasons.
“Teams can all beat each other in this league and it is about finding a level of consistency.”
Ton boss Moore insisted he will work with Weatherson to manage his injury.
The Cappielow gaffer said: “We know he’s not fully over it and is still feeling it slightly.
“The doctor said it wouldn’t fully clear up so it is just something we will have to monitor.”
