INJURY BLOW: Carlo Monti was hurt in bounce game yesterday.

CARLO Monti faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after damaging ankle ligaments in a bounce game against Celtic at Lennoxtown yesterday.

The former Parkhead youth player broke down in the match, which Ton lost 4-0 to a Celtic side featuring Marc Crosas and Paddy McCourt.

The youngster’s injury leaves Ton desperately short of cover on the left.

Ton boss Allan Moore said: “Carlo has badly damaged ankle ligaments and it is likely to keep him out for a couple of months.

“He was half-tackled and we heard a crack so we thought it was a broken leg but it must have been his shin-guard because when he went to the hospital for a scan it turned out to be ankle ligaments.

“He is still in a lot of pain. We are looking at him being out for an extended period.

“David MacGregor injured himself in the first league of the season and he is still out so it can take a while.”

Monti’s injury means Ton are desperately short of cover on the left, with both Kevin McKinlay and Nathan Shephard also sidelined.

Moore added: “Shephard has a groin problem and can’t get much above half-pace, while Kevin is still struggling with a calf strain.

“We might have to look at playing Michael Tidser at left back on Saturday against Cowdenbeath.”

To the names of Monti, McKinlay, Shephard and MacGregor can be added Ryan Kane, who is struggling with a knee injury, while goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert needed an injection in his shoulder this week.

Allan Jenkins has also picked up a knock, but Moore is hopeful the midfielder will be available for Saturday’s game.

Fouad Bachirou played in both bounce games this week but has still not fully shaken off his stomach injury and Moore admits the injury situation is approaching crisis point.

He said: “We have a reasonable-sized squad when everyone is fit but when you have around six injuries then it becomes very difficult.

“We may even struggle to get enough players to fill the bench on Saturday.”
