ALLAN Moore says he does not know if Jonathan Toto will remain at Cappielow beyond January - after admitting the striker has not lived up to expectations.

The Cameroonian signed for Morton on amateur terms in September on the back of glowing reports from Hearts - where he had been training since pre-season.

But Toto, 20, left, endured a torrid debut against Ross County and the Ton boss admits the player has failed to impress in the opportunities he has had.

Moore said: "To be honest, I would have to say he's been disappointing. Before his first game he got a dead leg in training on the Thursday and didn't tell us he was struggling.

"He went out and played on the Saturday and had a pretty poor debut. That put the pressure on him right away.

"We were expecting him to step in and do a job for us and I don't think he has impressed as much as we thought he would.

"To be fair, we haven't had a lot of games to play him in. The injury kept him out and then he was on the bench.

"I haven't played him in cup games because I didn't want to cup-tie him in case Hearts wanted him in January.

"If I could get him for the second half of the season, I could work with him and maybe get more out of him.

"I don't know what's happening at this moment in time with regard to him staying on in January.

"That decision is down to my chairman, because he's the one who puts the money in." Toto was understood to have signed on the basis Hearts would take him in January, but the Edinburgh side have not been in contact since the forward arrived at Cappielow.

Moore said: "Hearts have not spoken to us at all since Jonathan came here. I don't know if they have had people watching him.

"The First Division is all hustle and bustle and maybe the SPL would suit him better if you get more time on the ball. Whether he is going to be SPL standard, I don't know."
