ALLAN Moore expects to have clinched the signing of Derek Young before his Morton side make the trip to Livingston tomorrow.

The former Aberdeen captain has agreed terms on a contract until January and is now awaiting international clearance.

Young has been without a club since a short spell with Icelandic side Grindavik earlier this year.

And Moore is eager to hand the midfielder his first start tomorrow, as he has already shown his leadership skills in training.

Moore told the Tele: "We are just waiting for the wee bit of clearance we need because he's been abroad and we are hoping that will come before the weekend.

"We have agreed terms and he is quite happy to come on board so the only thing that is holding us back is that we are still waiting for that clearance.

"What he will bring is leadership to the middle of the pitch. We have lost Stuart McCaffrey at the back and that has been a factor in recent results.

"Derek has come in and has spoken to the boys and I think he will add what we need.

"He's not been at the top level for nothing - he's a good pro, he's fit and he talks well when he is in games and that's what we need.

"He's not here to mess around, he is a guy who can organise the boys and make sure they are doing their jobs properly.

"I know the fans have been right behind wee Fred and rightly so, but at times we need a wee bit more organisation there and I think Derek will offer us that."

Young has spent lengthy spells in the SPL with Dunfermline Athletic and Aberdeen and had a short stint in the First Division with Partick Thistle. And the Ton boss is confident Young's arrival will strengthen his side as they look to recover their league form.

Moore, above, said: "I think that when we get Caff back, and with Derek in and Peaso up front, then we will have a strong spine to the team.

"They will give us real experience and will have a number of young legs running about them, which should work well."
