THOMAS O’Ware says he is looking for a personal improvement against Brechin City today after a below-par performance last weekend.

The 21-year-old has been back at the heart of the Morton defence beside Sean Crighton following a spell playing as an emergency targetman.

O’Ware feels he has fared well since returning to that more familiar role — but also confessed he was far from satisfied with his part in Stenhousemuir’s goals seven days ago.

Ton’s longest serving player wants to respond with a clean sheet at Glebe Park and reckons it would all but guarantee three points due to the firepower his side carry in the forward areas.

He told the Tele: “It’s good to be back in defence.

“Obviously I filled in up front but I was never going to be playing there permanently.

“So, the sooner I got back to playing where I was going to play – be that central defence or central midfield – the better.

“I think me and Sean have done well together.

“Against Airdrie the boy scored a wonder goal that no one was stopping and Dunfermline scored a penalty.

“I don’t think Sean or I put a foot wrong against Dunfermline. Apart from the penalty, I think they only had two other shots on goal.

“But Stenhousmuir was a bit of an off-day compared to the week before. I thought the goals last Saturday were especially poor from my point of view.

“At the first goal I’m miles off the man at the halfway line – I should’ve been tighter. At the second goal, I should be tighter so the boy can’t play it into the channel.

“We’ve looked at the goals over and over again and there are loads of mistakes from more than one person, but I’m disappointed with my own part in them.

“We’ve not spoken specifically about clean sheets — obviously we’re just trying to win games — but if we keep clean sheets, we’re going to win games with the players we’ve got going forward.

“To keep those clean sheets we need to defend better as a team, and as individuals, than we did last weekend.

“Hopefully, I’ll be selected to play today, but big Stefan [Milojevic] is there, so it’s up to the gaffer if he’s going to bring him back in. If he does, I’ll need to work hard to get back in the team.” As well as cutting out the sloppy goals that were conceded at Stenny, O’Ware identified a need to make a blistering start.

He added: “It was really disappointing not to take something from the game last week. I don’t know how we didn’t with the amount of chances we had. We should have had at least two penalties too.

“But the first half was the worst we’ve played all season.

“We need to start games like we did against Dunfermline and do that every week, no matter who it’s against.”
